NTT Joins Vectis Opus Patent Pool
LONDON (November 11, 2024) – Vectis IP Ltd. (“Vectis”) today announced that Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (“NTT”) has joined the Opus Patent Pool as a licensor. The patent pool license covers the Opus interactive speech and audio codec, as defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force.
The third licensor to join the Opus Patent Pool, NTT brings even more value to licensees which now hail from the US, Europe and Asia and span many of the verticals where Opus is widely used given its renowned versatility and performance. NTT has been an innovator in audio codec technology since the 1980s and has made significant contributions to many other audio standards including G.711, G.722, G.729, AMR, AAC and EVS. It is therefore no surprise that it now joins other prominent audio pioneers as licensors in the Opus patent pool.
“We are delighted to welcome NTT as a valued licensor in the Opus Patent Pool,” stated Giustino de Sanctis, Vectis CEO. “The pool continues to gain momentum with growing licensor and licensee membership, demonstrating both the value of Opus technology and market acceptance of the fair and reasonable terms on offer.”
Shunsuke SAKAI, Director of Licensing Group, NTT Corporation, further remarked, “We are pleased to join in the Vectis Opus Patent Pool as licensor. We have long been active in audio codec development and believe that joining the Opus Patent Pool will help promote the spread of the results of our research and development in the market, leading to everyone’s benefit and enjoyment.”
Vectis IP continues to welcome other innovators with patents essential to Opus to join the pool.
